Since then, the President has demonstrated that Gov 2.0 was real and governments could improve interactions with their citizens through social media tools.  We wanted to demonstrate just how easy this could be done.

The start of the program began with the development of a video community where state and local government employees submitted best practices and examples of how they were making a difference in their organization by using technology in new and innovative ways.  We also developed a community on Twitter @Microsoft_Gov, where we engaged our followers and discussed the issues that were most important to them.

The program evolved further with the development of the Bright Side of Government blog where we posted on topics that were of interest to our readers. We also asked our readers to go beyond posting videos to our community and asked for them to blog for us about their agency successes by “telling their story.”

Looking back, I realize that we’ve built a strong resource in the Bright Side of Government.  Despite the predictions of the economy remaining in a recession or heading on the path of recovery, the fact remains that a bright light needs to shine on stars in government.

To make it easier for our readers, we have brought together all of the programs that we’ve developed for the Bright Side of Government into one digital dashboard that highlights all of our activities designed to share the successes of state and local government.

Now our readers have more functionality and can track all Bright Side of Government activities.  The digital dashboard acts as a central hub that aggregates content from:

  • Government Star Video Channel
  • Bright Side of Government blog
  • Voices for Economic Recovery
  • Twitter
  • Our Friends
  • Bing
  • Microsoft Incentives

We hope you enjoy this new functionality and that it will allow you to become more involved in our community.
