The Policy Network (a voluntary association of local government policy officers) wishes to let a contract to revitalise the network, particularly through social media and face to face events.  (As well as working for the IDeA, I am on the Board of the Network.)

The attached tender to develop the Policy Network gives more detail but in a nutshell, the Policy Network, which began in the early 1990s,  ended its subscription based membership a few years ago but hasn’t managed to recreate the sense of people being members of a network.  We still think there is a need for such a network, but it needs to adapt to a changed world, particularly of Web 2.0.  We see the way forward as promoting face to face networking, supported by social media.  We don’t see the Policy Network as being in competition with other networks but working with and through them.

While we think this is a workable vision in principle, it needs some creativity and imagination to implement it in practice.  In addition we need someone who knows and understands local government, networks and social media.

The money’s not huge, but this is an opportunity to develop thinking in social media and networks in exciting ways and make a real, positive difference for local government.

Please feel free to pass this on to anyone else you think might be interested.  Proposals should be submitted by email to enquiries@thepolicynetwork.org.uk by 12 noon on Friday 21st August 2009.
