Open Government Day is here, and most of the hype/anticipation seems to surround today’s deadline for agencies to submit their OpenGov plans as outlined in the Open Government Directive.
But there’s another part of the OGD that may get initially overlooked today that agencies should be excited about: new guidance from the Office of Management and Budget. As outlined in the OGD, agencies now have some clarity on how OpenGov efforts mesh with existing policies like the Paperwork Reduction Act, as well as guidance on how to help make government rulemaking information released online easier to find and track.
I haven’t yet seen the White House or OMB provide any blog post or other updates around the three new OGD guidance docs released today, but perhaps that’s still to come. Below are links to OMB’s new documents on their site, as well as embedded versions to read here.
- Social Media, Web-Based Interactive Technologies, and the Paperwork Reduction Act
- Information Collection under the Paperwork Reduction Act
- Increasing Openness in the Rulemaking Process – Use of the Regulation Identifier Number (RIN)
Social Media Guidance 04072010
Thanks to Scott Horvath over at USGS for pointing out the PDF for Social Media/Paperwork Reduction Act, which led me to finding the other relevant postings at OMB’s site.
