Rob Whiteman is the new managing director of the IDeA – The improvement and Development Agency for Local Government. He recently addressed the Learning Pool Public Sector Learning Conference with a keynote presentation on the The importance of collaboration in 21st century government.

To summarise:

  • There’s massive budget cuts ahead in the next three years;
  • Innovation is “absolutely key” – with a real need to do more for less;
  • Local authorities will need to engage more with citizens in new collaborative ways – as service delivery via the internet is the “single biggest change” ahead;
  • Key message: Innovation = change = collaboration.
