The Policy and Performance community of practice July roundup
Last week we held the Policy and Performance Reference Group – at a fabulous venue – and we covered some great stuff, too on involving citizens and improving performance and trust. Here’s the full round-up of the event on our social reporting site or the same within the community of practice.
We’re carrying forward the work of the day by building an accountability toolkit, which you can take part in shaping.
Managing Local Performance
Case studies: last month we had a call for case studies on PM IT systems and there’s both a draft case study and a practice example in brief. Please take a look at these and ask questions if there’s something more you want to know. We’re not looking for a critique, but simply a way of finding out what practitioners at different stages of the journey need to know.
This month we’re looking for case studies or brief practice examples on Lean or Systems approach.
We’re also kicking off our Managing Local Performance action learning sets. You can find an invitation to join our Peer Supported Problem Solving Process in the discussion forum.
Can you help?
- Do you have terms of reference for a corporate improvement or PM network you can share?
- Can you recommend a fellow council or LSP (or yourself) to speak on or be featured in a case study on PM in partnership?
- VFM for Performance and Improvement Teams (much discussion, is it even possible to demonstrate?)
- Equality impact assessments
- Large scale integration of transport services or heritage plans, best way ahead?
- The big list of consultations relevant to local government…
Sharing learning
- Graham Harlow from Kent had a few detailed questions for Ofsted about CAA. When he got the answer he shared it in the CoP. This is a great example of sharing learning at the cost of only a few clicks, but a benefit to all.
- Sources of local information
Fresh from the blogs
- Iqbal Husain looks at radical models of managing public services.
- Adrian Barker highlights some current initiatives on citizen engagement.
- John Craig-Sharples attended the recent launch event for the CLG paper on strengthening local democracy and found it distinctly underwhelming. He might say so, but I couldn’t possibly comment.
Opportunities
- Summer picnic of improvement initiatives in the East of England,
- invitation to tender for revitalising the policy network,
- funding sources for social media projects in councils,
- a job at the Isle of Wight for Corporate Policy and Complaints Manager
- The local government talent challenge
