ImageThe city of Edmonton, in Canada, has launched a new open data citizen dashboard. The website will allow residents to view performance data on government services in a more transparent format. The Socrata powered catalogue site will eventually include public financing information as well.

The site presents a dashboard view that looks at the performance of a given service area and how close it is to its target performance. Users will also have access to relevant performance data sets.

All of the site sections relate to a part of the city’s ten year strategic plan. As with most of these open data releases officials launched with the low hanging fruit – transportation services. Budget data will of course, be last. Right now users can see: snow and ice warnings, potholes, and transit ridership.

Green initiatives and quality of life data are up for the next rounds of transparency-lite style data. The site itself is well designed, appearing to have opted for style over substance and is viewable here.
